There was a time in my life when I truly believed that losing weight was simply a matter of wanting it badly enough.
I watched other people succeed, read every article I could find, tried one diet after another, and convinced myself that if I could just be more disciplined, everything would finally fall into place. Every time I lost a little weight and gained it back, I carried more disappointment than pounds. Eventually, I stopped believing that my body would ever respond the way I hoped it would.
I know there are women reading this who understand exactly what I'm talking about. You may not know me, and our stories may not be identical, but I imagine you've had moments when you've looked in the mirror and wondered why your body seems to have changed without your permission. Maybe you've reached a point where you don't recognize yourself anymore. Maybe you're tired of buying clothes because they're comfortable instead of because you love them. Maybe you're simply exhausted by the emotional weight that comes from feeling like you've failed over and over again.
If that's where you are today, I want you to know something that took me years to learn. Your struggle does not mean you've failed. In fact, it may have very little to do with a lack of willpower at all.
For years, we've been told that weight loss is a simple equation: eat less, move more, and the weight will come off. While those things certainly matter, they are only part of the story. Our hormones change. Our metabolism changes. Stress changes us. Menopause changes us. We lose muscle as we age, our bodies process food differently, and sometimes we are fighting biology without even realizing it. Understanding that was one of the most freeing moments of my life because it allowed me to stop seeing myself as the problem and start looking for real answers.
That journey changed me in ways I never expected. It eventually led me to open Go Figure Health, but not because I wanted to own a weight loss clinic. The truth is, I wanted to create the kind of place I wish I had found when I was struggling.
I wanted a place where women could ask questions without feeling embarrassed. I wanted them to understand what was happening inside their bodies instead of simply being handed another plan to follow. Most of all, I wanted every woman who walked through my door to feel like someone was finally listening.
One of the greatest privileges of my work has been hearing the stories that women share with me. On the surface they all come because they want to lose weight, but after we begin talking, I realize that's rarely the whole story. They're worried about diabetes because it runs in their family. They're frustrated because menopause has changed everything they thought they knew about their bodies. They want enough energy to play with their grandchildren, travel with their husbands, or simply feel comfortable having their picture taken again. Weight is part of the conversation, but it is almost never the heart of it.
That's why I don't believe a prescription is a solution by itself. Medication can be an incredible tool when it's appropriate, but lasting change comes from understanding your body, learning new habits, building strength, improving nutrition, and having someone beside you who helps you navigate the journey. My goal has never been to help someone lose twenty pounds. My goal has always been to help them regain confidence in themselves.
I have seen women walk into my office carrying years of frustration and self-doubt. Over time, something beautiful begins to happen. They start sleeping better. They have more energy. Their lab work improves. They begin making choices because they feel good, not because they're punishing themselves. Long before they reach their goal weight, they begin to smile again. Those moments remind me that real transformation starts long before the scale reflects it.
If you've almost given up, I hope you'll allow yourself one more opportunity to believe that things can be different. Not because someone has promised you a miracle, but because you deserve to understand your own body and to have someone walk alongside you who genuinely cares about your success. You are not too old. You have not failed too many times. You are not beyond hope.
I can't promise that the journey will always be easy, because meaningful change rarely is. I can promise that you won't be judged, rushed, or treated like a number. You'll be treated like a woman with a unique story, unique challenges, and a future that's still worth investing in.
If our paths cross, I would consider it an honor to be part of your journey.
You don't have to figure this out alone. Let's talk about what your path forward could look like.
